It can be set up in 4 different ways. The most structural stable one is the mountain crossing.or its reverse the valley crossing because 2 branches of railway are at right angles or perpendicular to each other.

It is useful add-on to a layout for younger children when they want some fun of going up a mountain or coming down but tends to knock things over.

The Mountain Crossing is a new height for the engines on the Island of Sodor to climb to, from there, they can see the Gordon's Hill, the Sodor Water Mill and even Lord Callan's castle! At the top of the mountain, they go through the tunnel and race back down to the bottom!
